The Graduate Work stream is one of the streams which is open to graduates who fulfil the criterion of having eligible degree qualification from a registered institution, including those from the Vocational and Training sector. These graduates gain a degree relating to the occupation which is listed in the Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

However the Department of Home Affairs has further made stricter the eligibility requirements of this visa. The complexity of acquiring the 485 visa lies in the fact that there are six ‘schedule 1’ requirements:

The following six schedule 1 items 1229 requirements for making a valid Class VC application are self-explanatory:

    • 1229(1) (application form)

 

    • 1229(2) (visa application charge)

 

    • 1229(3)(c) (where and how application must be made)

 

    • 1229(4)(f) (location if applying as a family member of a Class VC visa holder)

 

    • 1229(3)(g) (location, all other applicants)

 

  • 1229(3)(h) (provision for combined application)

Evidence of English:

The applicant has to satisfy this clause, when the application was made it must have been accompanied by evidence that the applicant:

Holds a passport of a type specified by the government

OR

Undertaken an English language test specified in a legislative instrument conducted in the 3 years immediately before the application was made.

Skills Assessment:

A subclass 485 graduate work stream applicant must have been accompanied by evidence the primary applicant had applied to a relevant assessing authority for the assessment of their skills in the nominated occupation.
