Attorney-General Announces Key Appointments to the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT)
The Attorney-General, Hon. Mark Dreyfus KC MP, has announced significant appointments to the newly established Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). These appointments are aimed at efficiently managing members and caseloads across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Appointments to the ART
As part of the ART’s inaugural leadership structure, four Jurisdictional Area Leaders have been appointed to oversee various areas:
- Deputy President Simone Burford– Protection
- Deputy President Kruna Dordevic– National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Social Security
- Deputy President Gina Lazanas– Taxation and Business, Veterans and Workers’ Compensation, and General Jurisdiction
- Deputy President Kathryn Millar– Migration
Additionally, Justice Emilios Kyrou AO will lead the Intelligence and Security Jurisdictional Area. These key roles will take effect when the ART officially commences operations on 14 October 2024.
AAT and ART Member Appointments
In addition to the ART leadership appointments, 13 members of the AAT have been reappointed, ensuring continuity and expertise within the tribunal. To further strengthen the ART, 20 new General Members have been appointed, selected for their skills and experience.

All appointees, both in leadership and general membership roles, were selected through a transparent and merit-based process. This approach ensures that the ART and AAT will operate with integrity and efficiency, addressing the complex needs of their respective caseloads.
